Elegy
Whispered emotions break the silence of night
Confessing to you everything you will never know
Elegies absorbed only by the darkness...
And the heart of the conflicted
Sounding hard like warning bells
Just before a storm
To be the only one who hears them...

That last line amped this one up for me. Well done with the twist.

DeleteI love the way your quadrille begins with the hushed sounds of ‘whispered emotions break[ing] the silence of night’ and is broken by the hard warning bells of emotion, only to realise that we are alone with our thoughts and dreams in the middle of the night. Nicely done, Dana!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Many nights have I spun heartbreak poems to myself in the dark!
Deleteeach line reads like a recitation - sounding through the silence. A profound and thought-full poem Dana
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura!
DeleteI wouldn't want to be the only one who hears it!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a lonely feeling! Thank you for stopping in!
DeleteJane here. This is a brooding poem, warning bells in the night, and lots of regret.
ReplyDeleteRegret only for a short time... then move on! Thank you!
DeleteI'm glad they got it out of their system!
ReplyDeleteYes!
